Welcome to Oxford CAMRA

CAMRA has launched a ‘Pulling Together’ campaign

Support  local beer, pubs, clubs and cider producers

Pubs, clubs, breweries and taprooms are facing unprecedented challenges as a result of COVID-19 lockdowns. With the closure of pubs and clubs across the UK our locals need our support now more than ever.

We need to support pubs as much as we can and urge others to do the same, and that’s the message Oxford CAMRA has been pumping out recently. People may feel that going to the pub now is not the same experience, with table service only, a limit of six people from different households who can meet indoors, and the need to wear masks when not seated but now, more than ever, pubs need our support if they are going to survive.

To find pubs which are open please visit whatpub.com. (notice the warning about opening hours. Pubs are varying their hours, often from week to week so it has been decided to leave the normal opening hours unchanged. Check with the pub – facebook is often best, if you need to.) CAMRA also has a list of breweries offering services, often including local delivery, which is available both on beerishere.org and camra.org.uk/pullingtogether/

And of course there is always an app!

Join the online community! Nothing can replace the local pub, but at CAMRA we are striving to bring people together to combat the loneliness and isolation imposed by these times. Why not join the online community? You can find us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/pullingtogetherforpubspintsandpeople/

The Campaign for Real Ale

 – Oxford Branch

Exciting news!

We very pleased to announce that the new Oxford Drinker website has gone live, so take a look at: Oxford Drinker

Sign up on the website for email updates, either as they happen or a weekly digest. And, most importantly of all, tell everyone you know and even people you don’t by using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. We have a wealth of news and views, and we welcome your contributions. Get in touch with story ideas, and if you want to write for us – even better!

We haven’t ruled out returning to a printed magazine at some stage, but the new website will be updated whenever there’s something worth telling you such as pub and brewery news, ‘On Tour’ reports, national news about pubs and breweries, thought-provoking guest columnists, ‘Down Memory Lane’ and much more.

On this web site:

You can find out how to keep up with branch events in Latest news . There is a complete guide to the new CAMRA Discount and Voucher schemes in CAMRA news. We are starting to hold social events and branch meetings and the detaikls are in What’s On, which also includes the Branch Diary and upcoming beer festivals in the Beer Festival Diary.

You can download and read previous editions of our publication, back issues of Oxford Drinker.

If you are visiting Oxford, you can download our Oxford city centre pubs Feb 2022   or, if you want to find a particular pub, or all pubs in a town or village, there is a wealth of information on CAMRA’s pub database WhatPub  . You can also learn more about the branch beer & cider festival held at the Town Hall each year. Oxford CAMRA Beer & Cider Festival 2019 has some photographs of the last festival we were able to hold and an excellent ‘beer-festival-in-3-minutes’ time-lapse.

We are starting to discuss the possibility of an Oxford Beer & Cider Festival 2022 and have a provisional booking at the Town Hall for 20 to 22 October. We may drop to 2 days and still need approval from CAMRA.

If you are not a member, why not join the ever-increasing CAMRA numbers?
